It’s not my doctor I have a problem with, it is the idiots manning his desk…
Once again, my perscription goes unapproved for the weekend. I find it hard to believe that 2 different pharamacies have such junk hardware that they fail to send refill requests.
This happens about every 2 months or so. Stranding me across a weekend to deal with serious sciatica. I have no insurance due to my wife getting laid off and we’re forced to pay out of pocket. Damn office is only open the first Saturday of the month.
I’m currently taking Gabapentin and Tramadol to somewhat control the pain. I always allow myself a buffer but this is insane. I shouldn’t have to suffer because they’re either morons, or they have something against me.
It’s bringing me down pretty hard. To know that early tomorrow, the last of my medicine is going to wear off and I have to just suffer. I can’t spend the first nice weekend in a while playing with my daughter. Sleep is out of the question. After a certain point so is walking. And then logic because I’ll be begging for someone to cut my leg off.
Brandi, my wife, says goto the hospital, but without insurance, it’ll be one more bill that we’ll have to stretch just because these dipshits at his front desk wanna play stupid games.
Sorry. I’m worked up about it. I don’t know what to do. I’m scared to be honest. Terrified. Only those that have been or are in my position know and understand what this can do to you.
*Deep Breath* Anyone have any thoughts?
Go to your pharmacy that you typically fill your RX at and see if they will give you some loaner pills for the weekend (Gabapentin and Tramadol are inexpensive…the later might have potential for abuse so its possible they may not give you Tramadol). If the Doc’s office does not get back to you by Monday, go somewhere else.
Second option is if the pharmacy is reluctant (which they have every right to be), try to go to an urgent care facility such as a CareNow and ask the Doctor to write for a 1 month supply for each (unless they are willing to give you refills).

I have plenty of Gabapentin. They give me enough for a month. The tramadol is a 100 count that lasts roughly 2 weeks.
My pharmacy couldn’t front anything, due to the nature of it, but a good friend suggested epsom salt soaks. I just too 3 maximum strength tylenol with my normal dose of everything, minus the tramadol. I am going to use the last dose for bedtime.
My inlaws are going to front the cash for a visit to urgent care tomorrow. I just hope I can make it through tonight.
Thank your for your reply. Reading it stopped my angst and got me to thinking right.
They’re usually good with providing some medication if you bring proof of a prescription.
Good luck!
Why do you wait until you’re down to the bottom of the bottle to ask for a refill?
You know how many pills you get with each prescription. And you know how many you need to take every day. Do the math.
The doctor may be slow to approve refills, but it’s your own damn fault you waited so long to ask. Don’t blame the office staff for your own failure to plan.
Do some research on MSM and Severe Pain. Best of luck.

I call three days ahead.
three days or three business days?
I’m not sure if this is true for all states or all types of medications, but we’ve ran into this issue with my mom’s neck surgery and were able to get a very small prescription from the pharmacist after explaining the situation. A pharmacist is more qualified to prescribe medication than a doctor anyway, especially things like pain medication.
So start doing it 5 days in advance. I don’t think 3 is unreasonable on your part, but if it isn’t doing the job then take the initiative yourself.
Also, can he write post dated prescriptions? I know someone who gets 4 months of Adderal prescribed at a time, but each prescription sheet is 30 days worth and they are dated 30 days after each other etc.
Yah I agree totally. No one will care about you more than…you!
To the TS: I’m not trying to flame you, but you already know from experience that three days is not enough. So stop banging your head against the wall and get a post dated script as suggested or call a week or more ahead. How hard is this?

I will from now on, but let me explain this again:
If they said they didn’t get a refill request how ddoes calling it in earlier help? I do not think it is reasonable to have to harp to the phramacy, and again to his office, back and forth each time I need a refill.
I call 3 business days ahead of time. Now I’m just going to start setting reminders and refusing to call in a refill through the automated lline. Then after that, call 20 minutes later to make sure that it is in fact in their system. Wait. Then call my doctor and make sure they have it. If not, call the pharmacy, find out. Wait. Call the office back. Rinse. Repeat.
It doesn’t happen eevery time, but this being the second or third, I think I have a right to be upset. They done this to me with other medicine too. It is just plain asinine.

I think that this is a wonderful idea. Going to dicuss it with him.

Yes, it is asinine. But if you have a written script in hand for a week or so’s worth of medication, then most if not all the hassles will be avoided.
I get my prescriptions from a mail order service, so there is several days delay built into the system even when it is working right. My doctor gives me two prescriptions: One for the full amount, and a second for a 7-10 day supply. I fill the 7-10 day prescription at a local pharmacy so I have something to use until my regular stuff arrives. Doctors know junk like this happens all the time and are used to issuing two scripts. You should be able to do the same.
It doesn’t really solve the bureaucracy, but at least you’ll have some wiggle room.
