ADHD Meds..any experience/opinions on which ones work?ch

I’ve been diagnosed by my psychologist with this (actually diagnosed twice, once was years ago) and I think I want to try and see if medications help me at all. Anybody have any experiences with the different medications out there?

You will have to experiment and see how they work for you, everyone is different.

Personally I found Wellbutrin to be horrible, and Dexedrine did almost nothing. Haven’t tried anything else since those two though.

adderall works great for me. i have both IR and XR

I’ve used straterra, Ritalin and some other ones.

Does it help you focus? Yes. Does cocaine help you focus? Yes.

Would you recommended someone takes cocaine to treat a problem of attention? No. That’s basically what Ritalin is, cocaine.

And the other ones are basically meth, just not as efficient.

If you want to solve this problem then learn how to focus. Never give into distractions, never do more then one thing at a time.

If you want, sit down and focus on a candle for ten minutes or ten hours a day. Notice every little change in it and work hard to be conscious. Active. Constantly active perception that notices everything. Focus, focus, focus on that little flame (or whatever. it is better to have something that changes, a flame does this job well, other objects might work).

Stick with the practice for days, weeks, months. Your concentration will improve profoundly (you get what you put in). Then you would have solved the problem completely without medication and you would only ruin your progress by giving into distraction all the time.

Most of humanity prefers to remain distracted and unfocused. When they need to focus they take drugs like caffeine, cocaine, adderal. Then later on they develop health problems or other types of problems because nothing in life is free. If you want marvelous concentration then you have to work for it. Nothing is free, and it will be paid somehow…

You see meth addicts? They don’t look good, do they.

What is adderal, it is amphetamine.

Meth is Methyl-amphetamine.

The methyl string is just used so the body absorbs the drug a bit more.

It’s still the same crap. You are hurting yourself. Meth addicts lose a lot of brain cells. Everything has it’s price. You could be smarter without that stuff.

you know, i tried it, and i feel focused/excited about reading/giddy.. but instead of reading my boring homework for 8 hours after a bit i just put it down and hop on the net and get fascinated by some random shit… not sure if im doing it wrong

Meth is not all that bad. Like marijuana, the dangers are most often highly over-exaggerated.

Saying adderall is the same as meth is like saying drinking a pepsi is the same as snorting a few lines.

Adderall is great but it can be too stimulating for some, especially the first few days. I started it a few weeks ago and and I like it a lot but I’m going to try dexedrine next (it’s half of what’s in adderall. You get much less of an adrenaline response and more dopamine.) It’s supposed to have less side effects but be nearly as effective. From my research I’ve found that the other drugs aren’t nearly as effective as adderall or dexedrine. They’re NOT the same as meth. Sure they’re in the same family. But they still work in different ways. Dexedrine works more by inhibiting the reuptake of dopamine whereas meth causes a cascading release of dopamine at low doses. Dexedrine can cause the release of dopamine at really high doses, but nowhere near the dose you’re going to be prescribed. Meth is neurotoxic and dex isn’t. As much as spiritus would like to believe doctor’s aren’t prescribing this medication to get you high (although if you intentionally OD on it yes you will get high. Don’t do that though because then you are the same as an addict and you’re making your problem worse instead of better.)

I’m liking the results of taking adderall so far. My social anxiety is gone and I haven’t touched weed or alcohol since I started (used to use both daily.) I can focus when I need to.

Do your own research and see for yourself. Look at the actual science behind it and not opinions. You’ll find it’s actually quite a safe drug when used properly. Or you could just learn your ADHD away! It’s not like you have a neurotransmitter deficiency or anything.

you must not really have adhd then if you could just "learn to focus"

I don’t really agree with you on it being not all that bad, but the dangers have been way over-exaggerated.

The drug itself isn’t what causes most of the problems. What erodes brain tissue, rots teeth, and causes heavy users of drugs such as methamphetamine to fall apart:

* not sleeping for days to weeks
* not eating for days
* smoking
* shooting IV
* snorting huge amounts of the drug
* not brushing one’s teeth for days or weeks or ever
* other drug use

Medication is not the end-all cure for ADHD. It’s just a tool for you to use. If you chose to waste it then you’re right back where you started. But if you use it correctly you can make a permanent change in your behavior and develop a strong work ethic. The meds are just to help you focus and motivate you. It can’t really help what you focus on.

Amphetamine:

alpha-methyl phenethylamine.

Meth:

N-methyl-1-phenylpropan-2-amine

Laugh it up mangina. I wonder if that smile of yours has no teeth.

I was on straterra and ritalin for ADHD noob.

I won’t have take that stuff because I healed the proper way, through healthy eating, fitness and exercising my attention.

Have fun with snappy bitchy moods because of those pills and a reliance on expensive medication that hurts your liver. You will be 33 and say "my life sucks" then look back and see why.

i work out and eat right, then i just get tired and want to sleep all the time

Amphetamine:

alpha-methyl phenethylamine.

Meth:

N-methyl-1-phenylpropan-2-amine

Is that supposed to mean something to me?

My mood has vastly improved and I have health insurance. I’d say drinking every day is worse for my liver than a small dose of amphetamine. Got anything else you’d like to say armchair MD?

Yeah: stop drinking daily and doing speed.
